SDG&E Continues to Inspect Natural Gas Lines to Ensure Safety and Reliability

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 13, 2022 – As San Diegans continue to spend more time at home, SDG&E has received many customer questions about work being done on or near private property. We want to reassure our customers that we take great care when inspecting and ensuring the safe operation of natural gas lines in San Diego. So, we ask for the public's support in keeping our employees and community safe.

As many San Diegans continue to spend more time at home, SDG&E continues to receive many customer questions about work being done on or near private property. We want to reassure our customers that the work we do to maintain a safe and reliable gas system is our top priority and is a job that is performed day in and day out.

SDG&E crews and contracted workers take great care when inspecting and ensuring the safe operation of natural gas lines in San Diego. So, we ask for the public's support in keeping our employees, contractors, customers and the community safe.

Some key identifiers of our workers include a branded company vehicle, safety vest, company badge and clothing. If you are still unsure if someone is an employee or contractor of SDG&E, do not hesitate to contact us. When in doubt, feel free to ask them to identify themselves by presenting a company badge.

"At times, we may need to access a customer's property to inspect SDG&E equipment, such as a gas meter, to keep our system safe and reliable. To protect our customers and employees, we are following the guidelines set forth by the State of California and the CDC," said Gas Field Operations Manager Rick Condry. "The safety of our customers, our equipment and the communities we serve is our top priority. We appreciate our customers' understanding and respectfully ask that they support us in our efforts to practice social distancing protocols when performing our work, which may occasionally require being on their property."

Here are some quick gas safety tips:

  • If you suspect a gas leak, call 911 or call SDG&E at 1-800-611-7343.
  • Call 811 before conducting any major digging projects.
  • Maintain the gas lines on your property.
  • In an emergency, know how to shut off your gas safely.
  • Check your gas appliances frequently (to be in good working order).
