Weekend Family Fun: It’s On at the San Diego Auto Show

The San Diego International Auto Show continues through Sunday at the Convention Center downtown, with 20 chances left for SDG&E customers to snag a $1,000 rebate toward the purchase or lease of a new electric vehicle.

Along with the nonprofit Plug in America, the Electric Auto Association of San Diego, and the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, we are staffing the Eco-Center area of the show – the hub to check out the latest plug-in electric vehicles (EV) and get all your questions answered about buying, owning and charging an EV.

Today’s hours are: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., and for Sunday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Three Reasons to Go

Reason #1:

Plug in America is giving out $1,000 rebates toward the purchase or lease of a new plug-in vehicle (including hybrids) daily. All you have to do is stop by their booth and take their EV shopping tool, PlugStar.com, for a test drive. It’s the equivalent of Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book – specifically designed for the EV shopper. A section of the website, PlugStar.com/sdge, provides customized information on local deals, incentives, and SDG&E’s pricing plans for charging EVs.

Reason #2:
Wait there is more.
Ask our clean transportation team members stationed in the Eco-Center about the Champions for Clean Air Program. Under this program, teachers and first responders (firefighters, Sheriff’s deputies, police officers, lifeguards, emergency medical technicians, etc.) who are so vital to our community's safety and well-being, are eligible to apply for an extra incentive: a $1,000 rebate toward an EV.

The incentives mentioned in Reasons 1 & 2 are on top of state and federal incentives for EVs, which can total more than $10,000. The Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which has a booth in the Eco-Center, is there to answer your questions about California's incentive.

Reason #3:
It’s all fun and no sales pressure. This is your chance to ask actual EV drivers, who staff the Electric Auto Association of San Diego's booth for unbiased opinions about various models of cars. And if you want to get behind the wheels of the latest models, test drives for some of the plug-in models are available as part of the Auto Show.
