EV Test Drive

Electric Vehicle Test Drive Event to Help Raise Funds for LGBT Community Center

Event is Open to the Public

Exactly a week from today, the Hillcrest Department of Motor Vehicles’ parking lot will be transformed on July 31 into an electric vehicle (EV) showcase, where the public is invited to come and test drive the latest EV models from brand names such as BMW, Chevy, Nissan, Jaguar and Tesla.

This test drive event is the result of collaboration between SDG&E, San Diego LGBT Pride, California Electric Transportation Coalition (CalETC), Cleantech San Diego, and the San Diego LGBT Community Center.

A special invitation is being extended to the LGBTQ community to “drive their values” and help create a more sustainable future by embracing clean transportation. Fueled today largely by gasoline and diesel, transportation is the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in California.

As more people switch to electric vehicles that produce low or no emissions, our region will be better positioned to both fight climate change and reap the benefit of cleaner air. Our region is ranked the 6th most polluted out of 228 metropolitan areas across the United States by the American Lung Association, because of the number of high ozone days recorded locally.

At the test drive, attendees can experience first-hand how easy EVs are to drive and charge and learn how they can save money by fueling with electricity vs. gasoline, all the while raising money for a good cause. For every test drive taken, CalETC will donate $10 to the San Diego LGBT Community Center.
