From selling cookies to running the world, the Girl Scouts San Diego’s Cool Women Awards is proof that women can do anything they put their minds to. Each year, all the coolest females gather to honor outstanding women who are roles models and mentors in the community. Whether they are balancing work and family, lending a hand in their community or inspiring future leaders, these women are making the world a better place.
This year’s awards ceremony not only involved honoring the list of San Diego’s cool women, but also offered a meet-and-greet session where Girl Scouts got the opportunity to meet past and present honorees to forge mentor/mentee relationships.
Calling all STEM mentors
A recent Girl Scouts Research Institute study revealed that 74 percent of girls are interested in science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) learning activities, but don’t necessarily think of these fields as future career options. This is where mentorship in STEM becomes hugely invaluable.
The Girl Scouts Outreach program gives 3,800 girls in underserved communities a chance to open their minds to STEM with fun, creative, hands-on learning opportunities. The program also helps connect these girls to positive role models and mentors who can inspire them to pursue careers in STEM.
