SDG&E Offers Tips for a Safe Holiday Weekend

SDG&E Offers Tips for a Safe Holiday Weekend

With heavy rains expected this holiday weekend, our priority, at SDG&E, is the safety of customers. If the lights go out in your neighborhood you can get the latest outage information on SDG&E’s outage map or on the mobile app.

Power Line Safety Reminder

Fallen electric lines are extremely dangerous.  Report any downed lines to 9-1-1 and SDG&E immediately at 1-800-611-SDGE (7343). Always assume that power lines are energized. Stay clear of the line and do not touch it. If a person has come into contact with a power line, don’t touch the person or any equipment involved. The line may be still energized and could be extremely dangerous.

Emergency Plan

We also encourage our customers to have an emergency plan and kit on hand. Include a battery-operated flashlight, first-aid kit, non-perishable food and water and a manual can opener.

If you don’t already have an emergency plan and kit here are some steps you can take now to keep your family safe.

During an outage

  • Turn off major appliances like big-screen TVs or heaters to prevent damage from a power surge when the service is restored.
  • Unplug sensitive equipment like computers, TVs and microwaves.
  • Don’t use candles for lighting since they pose a fire risk.

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
