A Record Year of Hiring Diverse Businesses in the Region

A Record Year of Hiring Diverse Businesses in the Region

We live in one of the most diverse regions in America, with a dynamic economy built on the talents, experiences, and perspectives of people from all walks of life. That diversity is being harnessed every day by SDG&E to deliver clean, safe, and reliable energy.

Last year, about $703 million was spent with diverse businesses, representing 44.6 percent of all the goods and services we rely on. That’s the highest level of spending with diverse businesses in our history.

It is also the fifth consecutive year that spending on diverse businesses has been above 40 percent, far exceeding the California Public Utility Commission’s goal of 21.5 percent.

Among the success stories is the infrastructure development firm Cordoba Corporation. Company officials credited SDG&E’s Supplier Diversity Program with helping them expand their local offices and increase local hiring.

Leading our diversity effort is  a team of about 150 SDG&E employees, referred to as ambassadors, who provide guidance and mentoring to business owners so they can grow their companies with SDG&E. There’s also robust training programs to help companies keep pace with changes in the energy industry and stay competitive.

We will continue to promote diversity and create opportunities in energy so that our industry reflects the rich makeup of the communities we serve.
