SDG&E President Speaks at Press Conference for Let's Live Let's Love Initiative

The Power of Partnership to Advance Peace and Safety

Community safety at our company is not limited to electric or gas operations and wildfire prevention. We also are committed to improving the quality of life and overall safety of the communities where our customers live.

Our efforts to provide clean, safe and reliable energy to our customers means less if families cannot safely send their kids to school, enjoy our local parks or catch the Trolley to and from work.

That’s why today our president, Scott Drury, stood side-by-side with community leaders and City of San Diego Councilmembers Monica Montgomery and Vivian Moreno at a press conference to support a peace and safety movement in the heart of San Diego’s historic Valencia Park neighborhood.

Spearheaded by Councilmember Montgomery, this initiative seeks to reduce violence; promote unity, healing and peace; foster improved community and police relationships; and improve overall quality of life in San Diego.

SDG&E is supporting the initiative by offering 30 utility boxes in the District 4 area of San Diego as canvases for talented community artists to create works of art that promote cultural pride, peace and safety. Drury was among the first to lift a celebratory paint brush to help paint a utility box near the Malcom X Library, where a group of about 30 gathered for the kickoff.

“We are honored to partner with local leaders and Councilmembers Monica Montgomery and Vivian Moreno to make a positive impact on San Diego neighborhoods,” Drury said. “We have a long history of supporting initiatives in District 4 and throughout San Diego County. It’s fantastic that our utility boxes can be reimagined by local artists to symbolize peace and safety.”

Utility Boxes Turn Into “Master(peaces)”

With a grant from SDG&E, San Diego Hip Hop 5k/Southeast Art Team will paint the 30 boxes. This talented group of artists have created beautiful murals throughout San Diego. The theme of utility box artwork will symbolize life, love and peace. Next time you are heading down Imperial Avenue, take a minute, and perhaps a photo, and recognize the beautiful displays of love, art, community involvement, partnerships and peace.
