All evacuation orders have been lifted. Additionally, the power line in the area was re-energized at approximately 5 a.m.

Update as of 2:45 a.m., October 3

Our crews controlled the gas at 1:30 a.m. The next step is to purge all residual gas out of the damaged gas line, develop a repair plan and then a restoration plan.

We have approximately 100 utility workers on scene who are working as safely and as quickly as possible to make repairs and restore service.

Repairs will take place through the night. Our goal is to start re-lighting pilot lights Thursday morning.

To minimize the number customers who could be impacted by loss of natural gas service, SDG&E brought in compressed natural gas trailers. The trailers were hooked up to the natural gas lines to maintain pressure, while repair was being done on the damaged line.

As a result, the number of customers impacted has been minimized to about 160. Previously, it was estimated that up to 1,000 customers could lose natural gas service.

A unified command has been established with San Diego Police, San Diego Fire-Rescue, San Diego Lifeguards and SDG&E crews.

The cause of the gas line break is under investigation. Our focus right now is to get the damage repaired so we can restore service and people can return to their homes.

For the safety of the repair crews, we have de-energized a 12Kv electric line (Circuit 545). 374 customers are affected. Power is estimated to be restored by 4:30 a.m.
