Project Planner II Amanda Hamilton shares more in the Q&A below. She is also featured in the video below, where you can hear more from the team about their work.

Can you tell us more about your career background? How did you become a planner at SDG&E?

I have a good balance of utility experience, including being a planner for the cable company, GO95/128 compliance inspector, dispatcher and even a cable technician. Becoming an SDG&E planner was the next natural progression for me.

What are some of the key skills that a planner needs to be successful?

Time and project management, organization, communication and work/life balance.  A desire to always want to learn more and do better.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

There is no typical workday. One day you could be leading Teams meetings and answering emails at your desk, while the next day you could be meeting customers to scope out their projects on the job site. You find yourself working on a range of projects including warehouses, strip malls, apartment complexes, residential homes to even city pedestals and light poles. I feel that the variety of planner responsibilities keeps this job fun and interesting while you are continuously learning every day.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy the connection between the planning part and the field. Seeing how everything looks when the construction is done and knowing you helped with a part of it is very satisfying to me.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love traveling, hiking, camping and relaxing at the beach with friends and family.

Thanks, Amanda, for everything you do!
